Mnemonic Cartography as Experimentation: tracing memories as landscapes, where every path walked recollects forgotten topographies.
My stimuli come from the in-between spaces– what is lost, what lingers, and what resists erasure. I draw from movem, ent, tangled structures, the interplay of light and shadow, and the disruptions in familiars narratives.
Philosophical concepts, particularly those exploring repetition, difference, and impermanence, inform my process.
The materialitity of raw elements- paper, wire, charcoal, pastels -also acts as a stimulus, shaping the way I think through form and trace.
The origins of my work lie in deviation and multiplicity- an attempt to move beyond fixed representations and engage with fluid, evolving spaces. My frame of reference is both philospphical and material: thinkers like Deluze and Guattari, the poetic of rhizome and the tracing as a durational act fascinates me, “ A rhizome ceaselessly establishes connections between semiotic chains, oraganizations of power, and circumstances, and social struggles.”
Mnemocic cartography, through this lens, becomes a rhizomatic practice:
Memories are not oraganized linearly like a tree with roots and branches, but webs of connections, constantly shifting and expanding. Each memory can lead to to multiple others, non hierichical and multidirectional, just like that rhizome’s growth underground- hidden but interconnected.
I engage with the ephemeral shadows, fleeting gestures, and the marks that remain.
